What Should I Do If I Was Given a Desk Appearance Ticket?
Attorney Carl Spector Explains What You Should Do if Charged with a Crime
If you’ve been charged with a crime in the city of New York and a police officer or detective gave you a desk appearance ticket (which we call a DAT), it’s actually a notice to appear in court where you can be charged with marijuana possession, assault, or even criminal mischief. An officer may give you a desk appearance ticket for any of a series of different charges and, if you have received a DAT for any of those crimes or violations of the law, I suggest that you contact an experienced criminal defense attorney for a consultation because, at some point, you’re going to have to appear in front of a judge, and you should never do that by yourself.
