New York DWI Lawyer Discusses a First Time DUI Offense
As an experienced New York DWI Lawyer, I am often asked what can happen if you are charged with a DUI for the first time. If you’re charged with a DWI in the State of New York and you’re a first offender, obviously your lack of prior record is to your advantage. You will have been fingerprinted, so the court, the judge, the prosecutor, the district attorney, and your attorney will know whether or not you have a prior DWI. I advise my clients as a New York DWI Lawyer that it is important to know that a first time DWI offense, even if you’re convicted, will not require jail time. It’s important to understand that a first offender has all the defenses of any other DWI in the State, but does have certain leniencies that can be applied to that particular individual.
