New York City Theft Charges | Shoplifting
In New York, when you’re charged with shoplifting, you’re actually charged with a Petit Larceny. It’s a Penal Law violation, it’s a crime, and it will be prosecuted by the prosecutor’s office in whatever county you’re in. In some counties, they very vigorously prosecute those charges. Other prosecutors are more interested in diversion and helping that person so they will not commit that crime again.
Depending on what county you are charged in will depend on the strategy that I employ in defending you. I’ve handled many of these cases through the decades. I’d be more than happy to discuss your case with you.
