Brooklyn DWI Lawyer Discusses Ignition Interlock Devices
I am often asked as a Brooklyn DWI Lawyer, what an ignition interlock device is. In New York, if you’re convicted of a DWI or a DUI as a criminal offense, the judge is required to sentence you to install an ignition interlock device in your vehicle. That term will be for one year. While there is some suggestion that you can get that lowered after a period of time to six months, it does not seem to be the standard that is used in the State of New York. What you can anticipate is having the expense and the inconvenience of installing an ignition interlock device in any car that you own or operate for one year, if convicted of a DWI as a misdemeanor.
